Girl Charged With Sending Nude Photos To Classmates

The Licking Valley High School student, whose name was not released, faces felony charges in Licking County Juvenile Court of possessing criminal tools and the illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.

The alleged incident occurred after the Licking County prosecutor visited high schools, including Licking Valley, and warned students about what could happen if they are found with or send pornographic images of minors on their cell phones.

"They said we could serve 20 years," said Abbie Guinsler, a Licking Valley junior. "After the prosecutor came and talked to us, we were all pretty surprised it happened."

The assistant prosecutor who is handling the case declined to comment. Licking Valley principal Wes Weaver said that he thought his students were aware of the penalties they could face.

"I felt there was a good understanding by our student body about the seriousness of the matter," Weaver said.

Not capitalism but rather it's opposite. This story is interesting to me partly because of the cheap punning opportunity but mostly because it is an example of unfounded fears and unintended consequences.

Lefties have always been terrified that conservatives will somehow burst into private bedrooms and confiscate all the porn and sex toys and maybe even deliver a harshly worded lecture on morality. This hasn't happened, of course.

What has happened is that PC sensibility has formed an unholy alliance with schools and lawmakers to do exactly what the left always feared but out of proper liberal concern for the safety of the children.

Sending nude pics to your friends is fairly stupid but it isn't evidence of an intent to corrupt minors, engage child pornography, or anything else. This girl can probably obtain contraceptives and maybe even undergo a surgical abortion without her own parents' knowledge but she gets the book thrown at her for engaging in a decidedly non-reproductive and non-disease transmitting activity. In effect, the state is saying that she probably owns the rights to her own uterus but she doesn't own the rights to her own image. That's nuts.

Girl, 15, Faces Child Porn Charges for Nude Cell Phone Pictures of Herself

Central Ohio authorities have filed felony charges against a 15-year-old girl accused of taking nude cell phone photos of herself and sending them to high school classmates.

Police say the Newark Licking Valley student was arrested Friday and held over the weekend. On Monday, she entered denials to juvenile charges of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and possession of criminal tools.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio attorney general's office says an adult convicted of the child pornography charge would have to register as a sexual offender, but a judge would have flexibility on the matter with a convicted juvenile.

A prosecutor says Licking County authorities also considering charges for students who received the photos.

Student specifically warned about cell-phone nudity

NEWARK -- School officials pulled aside a Licking Valley High School student and warned her about nude cell-phone photographs immediately after a presentation from the Licking County Prosecutor's Office on the same subject, according to a press release from Prosecutor Ken Oswalt.

A month later the 15-year-old girl was charged for allegedly doing exactly what she was cautioned against.

The defendant is a foster child and often times Oswalt said disposition -- or sentencing as it is known in adult court -- could occur in the county where her agency is located
