    Anyone else watch the race?

    The winner was California Chrome

There is a great story behind this winner

Two old guys bought a dam for breeding and decided to call themselves "Dumb Ass Partners".

    Here is the story
    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mor...-chrome-derby/

    At the end of the article, the horses trainer, Art Sherman (77 years old) said;

"This has all come quickly and unexpectedly to a racetrack lifer, who has seen almost all there is to see but who now finds himself staring down something altogether new. "In our business this just doesn't happen," says Sherman. "The whole story is ridiculous. It doesn't make any sense at all."
Obama isn't the problem. The problem is an electorate that would vote a man like him into office.

Without a doubt. This is a better story than Seabuscuit. At least Seabuscuit had a pedigree. $10K worth of horse produced this million dollar champion.

I got into a couple of bar pools...I drew California Chrome in one, and the biggest long-shot "Pablo Del Monte" in the other.

Which means neither will win, place or show.

    California Chrome won

    Woot woot

One more win at Belmont and he could be the next Triple Crown winner

There hasn't been a winner of the TC since '78

Wasn't really much of a challenge. The field was very weak hence he being a 3/5 favorite. The Belmont should be interesting as it's a 1 1/2 mile race and is usually the Achilles heel of the TC. I thought Smarty Jones had it 10 years ago but he was nipped at the wire.

Drat, missed seeing the race. So glad that California Chrome won. It proves that heart sometimes beats money, a real feel good story.

A little black greyhound that I had so many years ago, Tiny, was a real racer. We went to a greyhound gathering in Kanab, Utah, where the retired racers could run for fun. An off duty Utah state trooper had a radar gun. Tiny clocked 38 mph at the age of 10 with a heart condition. I heard that she was kicked off the track for looking too aggressively while running a race (she didn't hurt another dog). She wasn't much bigger than a whippet, only 43 pounds racing against some of the big males at 80+ pounds, but that dog had heart.

Congrats California Chrome from the long ago Tiny dog. Darned, I loved that dog.

We had California Chrome's trainer and jockey throw out the first and second pitches at tonight's Angels baseball game in Anaheim
