Why I will never participate in Discussionist
    This thread, right here:

If they can get away with using pejoratives against the Democratic Party with no repercussions, there can be no civil discussion with them. Thus there is no point in even attempting it.
The "perjorative" that is used without repercussions....

    wait for it.....

    11. Democrat party is not name calling

You are a democrat are you not?

    19. Here's why we hate that:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democra...y_%28phrase%29

It's a pejorative term. And Republicans looooove to use it.
    Democrat rather than Democratic

    LOL, thin skin abounds.
    southernwriter (111 posts)
    39. From the wiki article.....

Republicans "feared that 'Democratic' suggested Democrats a monopoly on or are somehow the anointed custodians of the concept of democracy.

I think they have a point. I used the term Democrat for years, even while voting it.

    56. And to the Republic, for which it stands...

Let's start calling Republicans "Republics" then. It will invite rude rhymes with words like "dick" but hey, it's all about being "equal" so why not?

If the GOP can truncate the DemocraTIC Party's name, why can't the DemocraTIC Party partisans start calling Republicans "Republics"...which sounds a lot like Republicks. Not a good image.

    61. Oh, it is name calling and you know it, it is why you use it

silly people, the rightwing hates America and the reason they hate America is there are too many liberals, Gays, Blacks, Asians, Latinos, Ukranians, Canadians, Muslims, Jews, etc.

    period

    next?

    15. Its more than that

those who use the term "democrat party" know full well that the term is incorrect.

it sounds like "rat" and it is supposed to be funny, but in an immature way it seems

the offense comes from the fact that there is offense intended
Right, they're mind readers. Kinda like they KNOW conservatives are racist because they criticize Obama's policies.
    jenmito (11 posts)
    8. Yup. Freepers, for example, just call it the "Rat Party" if not the "Democrat party" (like

RWers like Limbaugh, Cruz, and nowadays almost EVERY Repub. incorrectly calls it). The only people on TV I've seen correct Rs who use "Democrat" as an adjective are Chris Matthews and Joy-Ann Reid.
    ReTooled (189 posts)
    35. and Democrats refer to ratfucking

they don't use it for the same purpose, but the end result is the same

They have a point all right--but it is all about mocking.

    14. If Democrat Party

Is hideable here, sheeeesh I'm outta here.

Until we get enough conservatives here to hide your favorite phrases like "white privilege" and "objectification"
    MisterMan (263 posts)
    30. So, if we parsed "Republican Party" to the "Rectum Party"

    You would have no objections?

    Do tell
So "Democrat" and "Rectum Party" are equivalent?
    misterBubble (121 posts)
    38. "White privilege" and "objectification" aren't insults.

I would think you would know that.
"Democrat" isn't and insult, "white privilege" is used to demean and diminish someone and their accomplishments.
    hap (117 posts)
    20. I sat on a jury this morning to hide the term "bagger."

Why did I vote to hide? Because yesterday someone posted that they really hated the term, and we shouldn't use labels people find offensive.

Same thing. If you use the term "Democrat party" I immediately assume you are hostile.
Right. "Democrat" and "Bagger" are the same.
    Silent But Deadly (256 posts)
    55. Yes, It's the equivalent of Repugs, Repigs, or even Repubes. nt
    ReTooled (189 posts)
    58. you forgot Repukes and Rapeubs

    and Republicants, Repukelicants, and Nazis
And DUers and liberals use these all the time. So.......???

NOW we're supposed to NOT say Democrat (which I say all the time...democrat...democratic..what's the difference???) because liberals find it offensive, when they go out of their way to be deliberately offensive with the above words?

I don't even pay any attention to it. I just figure it's liberals acting immature and like the jerks many of them are.

Democrats today are anything but democratic.
    Especially the one's at Democraticunderground.

    Democrat, democrat, democrat.
Obama isn't the problem. The problem is an electorate that would vote a man like him into office.

It's an old, good-natured joke among politicians from the days when there were more good-natured jokes in politics than these days. A republican will never call it the Democratic Party.

Democrats used to laugh about it. I still do.

Yeah! That'll show 'em. Just thinking about being called a Republic hurts my feelings. Oops. I was wrong. That was just gas. Too bad. I really thought you were onto something there.

So....were I to wander into DU1 or DU2, I would never find some variant of "Repugnican"? Or some other obvious pejorative variant of "Republican"? I would never find some pejorative variant of "Conservative"? DUers always refer to Pro-Life people as Pro-Life, without scare quotes or some pejorative adjective? And never refer to Prto-Life people as "anti-abortion" or "anti-choice"?

Sorry! Not going to purchase that proffered bridge!

We don't call Republicans REPUBLICRATS! I'm really sick of all the media referring to them as the Demoncratic party. There's not one thing democratic about them!

If one person calls me a Republic, I'm gonna throw a fit!!!!!
They've tried that before, and oddly, it did not stick. They waste so much energy on this, it's hilarious. And they seem to be blind to those childish names they have for the other side (some of them are sooooo stupid).

Do they poll the rank and file membership to directly elect their party leaders? No? Then they are definitely not 'Democratic,' and 'Democrat Party' is entirely appropriate.
