(CNN) -- A day after taking over Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, militants gained nearly complete control of the northern city of Tikrit, witnesses in the city and police officials in neighboring Samarra told CNN.
Heavy fighting erupted inside Tikrit -- the hometown of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein -- as the military tried to regain control, the sources and a police official in Baghdad said.
According to the witnesses in Tikrit and the Samarra police officials, two police stations in Tikrit were on fire and a military base was taken over by militants, believed to be from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS and ISIL.
The governor of Salaheddin province, of which Tikrit is the capital, was missing, according to the sources.

We could say they are spending like drunken sailors. That would be unfair to drunken sailors, they're spending their OWN money.

The design is becoming more apparent.
Hope that it backfires on them and the American electorate awakens from their slumbers. Tonight Col Ralph Peters was livid. Gen Keen said that the administration was warned that this would happen.
This is sickening to me, can't even imagine how infuriating and nauseating this is to our brave troops who fought and many gave up their lives---all to have Obama allow this to happen in Iraq. Anyone with a half of a brain could have seen this coming.

Tonight, Bill O'Reilly said that the terrorists are now winning the war on terror. I'm not sure he's wrong. The Obama Administration: Deny. Deflect. Blame.
