    I hope not. There are so many decent people on both sides of the political spectrum who may profoundly disagree but that disagreement does not reduce their essential decency, and they far outnumber the ones who are so bitter and angry and extreme on either or both sides.

    McCain did well to reign in the extreme rhetoric. I think, at heart, he is a very decent man. Probably Obama is a very decent man. We may profoundly disagree, but we share the same form of government and the same nation.

    I am concerned with extremism of any stripe. I think that we can do better.

Bush) in deficit spending for an entire presidency. It’s no small feat to demolish an 8-year record in just 3 years.

    Under Obama’s own projections, interest payments on the debt are on course to triple from 2010 (his first budgetary year) to 2018, climbing from $196 billion to $685 billion annually.
