    Just another weekend...

by Warner Todd Huston 16 Jun 2014, 4:22 AM PDT

It was another bloody weekend in Obama's hometown of Chicago as the city celebrated Fathers day. By the time the weekend drew to a close, two were dead and 25 wounded in violence across the city.

As the weekend began on Friday, June 13, a 15-year-old boy was among six wounded on the City's South and West sides. Most of the victims were in their 20s and 30s but on Friday afternoon a 15-year-old was wounded in Avalon Park.

Now I know the Libtards will somehow blame Bush but...

And it never gets national coverage. Can't be dumping on the President's hometown.

It's more than that-it's about not wanting summer tourists to avoid Chicago.

Detroit has a "Winter Blast" event downtown every year. A couple of years ago, there was an incident that only made it to social media, not to any news show or newspaper. A group of punks invaded the downtown Coney Island restaurants and started beating on the customers-luckily, no one was seriously injured or killed. City leaders and local media didn't want to ruin future "Winter Blasts" by publicizing it. If someone had been seriously injured or killed, they wouldn't have been able to avoid the media coverage.

The majority of the places where this violence occurs is nowhere near where tourists congregate in Chicago. If murders start happening near the mag mile, Streeterville, Wrigleyville, etc., it does make news.

    Sad but true.

I have a friend who lives somewhere in the area near Wrigley Field, who reports no real issues with crime. I have another friend who lives on the south side who says it's no different than Detroit. I told her that at least you have trains in Chicago.

This may sound counterintuitive, but I felt very very safe living in Chicago.

I lived in Detroit for 12 years, from 1989-2001. I never really felt that scared, and I was not living in the best part of town. I moved because it was time to buy a house and Detroit has high property taxes.

I'm not really scared of it, now. I know people who are, that never go south of 8 Mile Rd, unless itlis to a casino, sports venue, or Greektown. It's like anywhere else-pay attention to where you are and who is around you, and be very careful about where you park your car.
