    Some Concrete Facts About Hamas
    By Liel Leibovitz

Israeli troops entering Gaza last week have so far uncovered 18 tunnels used by Hamas to send armed terrorists into Israel and built using an estimated 800,000 tons of concrete.

What else might that much concrete build? Erecting Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, required 110,000 tons of concrete. Hamas, then, could’ve treated itself to seven such monstrosities and still had a few tens of thousands of tons to spare. If it wanted to build kindergartens equipped with bomb shelters, like Israel has built for the besieged citizens of Sderot, for example—after all, noted military strategists like Jon Stewart have spent last week proclaiming that Gaza’s citizens had nowhere to hide from Israel’s artillery—Hamas could have used its leftovers to whip up about two that were each as big as Giants Stadium. And that’s just 18 tunnels. Egypt, on its end, recently claimed to have destroyed an additional 1,370. That’s a lot of concrete.

You may find such calculations callous. They certainly pale in comparison to heart-wrenching photos of dead children on the beach. But they matter a whole lot: If you’ve ever read Robert Caro’s The Power Broker, or played Sim City, or just looked out your window and paid attention to your city’s changing skyline, you know that urban leaders are measured not by what they say but what they build. And Hamas, almost exclusively, chose to build tunnels, bunkers, and launching pads for missiles.
This is the logistics side of the Arab Palis' tunnels.

How Hamas uses its tunnels to kill and capture Israeli soldiers

Analysts said the tunnels are a major prong of Hamas’s military strategy against Israel. The IDF has sussed out 36 of what it calls “terror tunnels,” but there are probably more. While the Gaza Strip remains mired in poverty — the 2011 per capita income was $1,165 — Hamas is thought to have sunk more than $1 million into the excavation and maintenance of every tunnel. “Much to the misfortune of the people of Gaza, Hamas has invested far more resources in ‘underground Gaza’ than in ‘upper Gaza,’” wrote al-Monitor’s Shlomi Eldar. “The ‘change and reform’ that Hamas offered its voters was invested in its tunnels at the expense of the people of Gaza.”
    ...
There are three types of tunnel, experts say. The first are economic: hundreds of tunnels burrowing into Egypt, which allowed Hamas to funnel in resources, guns and rockets until the Egyptians sealed off many of them.

Another set of tunnels reportedly services the Hamas high command. “Every single leader of Hamas, from its lowest ranking bureaucrats to its most senior leaders, is intimately familiar with the route to the security tunnel assigned to him and his family,” al-Monitor reported. “The most senior leadership has its own specific tunnel.”

The last kind is allegedly driving the Israeli invasion: tunnels that can carry Hamas militants under the Gaza border and into Israel.
This is the strategic and human side of the Arab Palis' tunnels.

Put together, it's quite a picture. The world - including the US - pours billions of $$, and tons of construction materials (concrete, re-bar, timber, plywood) supposedly to rebuild Gaza. Hamas took and takes that $$ and materials and uses vast amounts of it to build tunnels: tunnels for bringing in weapons, through Egypt; tunnels that let Hamas officials go wherever they want, unhindered, and to shelter their families (it's good to be elite, even among the Arab Palis!); tunnels to transport weapons and terrorists to targets in Israel.

The latter tunnels are why Israel must destroy the Arab Palis' tunnels before they agree to any cease fire that precludes further tunnel destruction.

The Hamas-officials-only tunnels should show the rest of the Arab Palis in Gaza the character of Hamas. I don't expect the Arab Palis will much care, given their hatred for Jews.

It looks like Egypt is working on taking out the supply tunnels under their border. I guess the Egyptians have figured out that letting Hamas have free rein compromises Egypt's control of its own soil.

The nations and charities supporting the Arab Palis need to take a long hard look, and think long and hard about how their generosity is being (ab)used. If destroying Israel and slaughtering Jews because they exist is the purpose of some nations and "charities", well, Hamas is making good use of their gifts. OTOH, if any nations or charities imagined they were really helping the Arab Palis achieve a better life, it's time they open their eyes to how their generosity and naiveté has been raped ("abused" would be too severe an understatement!)!

Maybe one of the lurking DUmmies will read this and learn something, I thank you for taking the time to post this. I had no idea the amount of money they invested in the tunnels and was happy to read that Egypt was no longer playing along.

I think people have a tendency to root for the underdog.

But in this case, the dog has rockets.

I'm really good at not noticing stuff that is out in the open. In fact, I frequently tell Mrs. SVPete that if she wants me to find things, she needs to hide them better.

Anyway (self-deprecating truth aside), something occurred to me last evening: Hamas has been digging these tunnels into Israel; for several years; these tunnels are, collectively and individually, an invasion of Israel!

Fill the tunnels with gas, thump in a match and shoot t5he rats when they run out. Then pack with explosives and blow a ditch between the entrance and exit points. Pretty soon they'll have a moat around Gaza to contain the Muzzies.

The moat is a nice touch, but meaningless.
    They do not want Gaza.
They want ISRAEL (ALL of it!)

Of course, to accomplish this, they want to systematically wipe out the people that already own it.
And so long as the MSM continues to report only their view of the conflict, they will continue as they are.
