    If I had to go thru that kind of crap to learn my times tables, I would have never ended up as a math major.

    That video makes exactly as much sense - no more and certainly no less - than every other method used to try to teach me mathematics. :) When I was in eighth grade, something called the "Illinois Math" was touted (and later discredited), and I didn't even LIVE in Illinois.

    I was apparently unclear - I meant the vid in the OP.

    Notes:
    What we are speaking of is arithmetic, not mathematics. you don't get to math until Intergrational Calculus.
    If someone does not understand arithmetic the best thing to do is get them some manipulatives or an abacus.
    Much of understanding arithmetic is visual rather then comprehension.
