In Yukon, Golfers See Short Season but Long Days
Strolling a fairway at 11 p.m., it was still plenty bright enough to read a slick green or a scorecard at the Top of the World golf course on the longest day of the year.
"It actually gets easier to see the ball the later at night it gets," said Siana Mills, one of three dozen golfers who participated in the course's Midnight Romance golf tournament held annually on the summer solstice in this mining and tourist town. "The sun was in our eyes when we first teed off" at 9:30 p.m. on June 21, she said. It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.
