Doctors rejecting insurance plans under Obamacare because of low physician reimbursement rates
Obamacare isn’t only hurting Millennials by causing college tuition to rise and offering expensive plans for young individuals, but the health care law is also doing damage to doctors.
Specifically, doctors like Dr. Doug Gerard of Hartford, Connecticut, are receiving lower reimbursements for patient visits because of Obamacare, reports NPR.
Gerard says that, for a routine visit, he would likely be reimbursed $100 by a private insurance company, while he would only receive $80 from Medicare. The reimbursement from Obamacare plans comes in somewhere in between but closer to the lower bound, meaning he could take up to a 20% cut in pay for each routine visit.
“I cannot accept a plan [in which] potentially commercial-type reimbursement rates were now going to be reimbursed at Medicare rates,” the Connecticut internist explained to NPR. “You have to maintain a certain mix in private practice between the low reimbursers and the high reimbursers to be able to keep the lights on.”...

I know a small business that had to close last week due to reimbursement cuts. It's sad.

It will only get worse. As the Gov realizes that cost are soaring and those paying in are far less then they wished. They will have to cut those reimbursement rates further.Rest In Peace America

I just spoke to yet another doctor last night that retired. He had enough. He said 80% of his job had become "computer work" and 20% was left for seeing patients. He is done. He flat out blamed the ACA. He said he can no longer spend the appropriate time treating patients and he is going to take a job as a hospice doctor and will be on call. This was a damn good doctor. Very compassionate. He will be a good doctor for hospice patients, but a great loss to our community's healthcare. He has a teen aged daughter. He simply became fed up as he could not offer patients proper care. Obamacare is set up to treat front door problems, not backdoor (inside you problems/root cause) they want the doctor to see you, write a script and have you move on to the next patient.
