Murtha expects Obama to win Pa.
Says it has taken time for voters to embrace black candidate
    Wednesday, October 15, 2008
    By Ed Blazina, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

U.S. Rep. John Murtha said today he expects Democratic nominee Barack Obama to carry Pennsylvania in next month's presidential election.

Mr. Murtha, a 17-term Democrat from Johnstown, told the Post-Gazette's editorial writers he sees momentum building in Mr. Obama's campaign across the state for the general election after he lost his party's April primary to Hillary Clinton. He thinks Republican John McCain's efforts have been stymied by the country's economic crisis.

"I think Obama is going to win, but I don't think it's going to be a runaway," he said. "I think he wins Pennsylvania."

Mr. Murtha said it has taken time for the state's voters embrace a black presidential candidate.

"There's no question Western Pennsylvania is a racist area," said Mr. Murtha, whose district stretches from Johnstown to Washington County. "The older population is more hesitant."

Mr. Murtha said groups he deals with regularly, such as military veterans and senior citizens, have come around to supporting Mr. Obama in the past three months. He credited Mr. Obama with being the most organized candidate he has ever seen.

Luckily, Bill Russel is taking him to task:

BILL RUSSELL: Murtha Wrong on Racist Charge
JOHNSTOWN [10.15.08] Lt. Col. Bill Russell (ret), the Republican nominee in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District, responded today to new comments from Rep. Jack Murtha calling Western Pennsylvania “a racist area.”

According to an article published by the Post-Gazette, Murtha made the following statements to reporters regarding Barack Obama’s prospects the upcoming presidential contest: “There’s no question Western Pennsylvania is a racist area.” Murtha would make similar comments to the Pittsburgh-Tribune Review saying, “Obama has got the problem of the racist issue in Western Pennsylvania.”

Russell responded saying, “Once again Mr. Murtha is using the prestige and platform of public office to make wild, reckless statements about the people he represents in Congress.” Adding, “Because the people of Western Pennsylvania aren’t wholeheartedly embracing Barack Obama’s values and positions on issues like the right-to-life, taxes and the 2nd Amendment doesn’t makes us racist. That’s the cheapest of cheap shots.”

Russell said Murtha’s latest comments reveal a “strange, arrogant disconnect from the people who live and work in Western Pennsylvania. He forgets that this is a melting pot of hard-scrapping immigrants. My wife Kasia is a Polish immigrant, my neighbors in Johnstown trace their ancestry to all corners of the earth. He needs to apologize. He needs to set the record straight.”

    AMEN Sir! :D

What? I thought we just went over this. Doesn't Murtha post here? If people don't vote for O"Christma because he's a Socialist puppet, they do run the risk as being perceived as ...sigh...racist by some militant Socialists stooges, sure. However, if people vote for Godbama because he is black, then they will actually be racists. Racial preference, whether for positive or negative discrimination, is what racism is.

Am I reading this right? Murtha is claiming that the basis for a Godbama victory in W.Pa would come from that states unquestionable racism?

    The stupidity....it's...so beautiful.
    Haiku anyone?

If there's any justice in the world, Murtha will lose his post this year. Strange that a man who was once a Marine hates me and my fellow Marines, calling us murderers and somehow people don't seem to be all that upset.

And one of the Lance Corporals Murtha called a cold-blooded killer is now suing him for slander. I love it.:D

    email from Russell campaign:

    SURPRISE!! SURPRISE!!

tonight’s debate has been cancelled. Apparently, Mr. Murtha does not want to face his constituents, but is okay with calling them racists.

Feel free to call EVERY news outlet/talk show/ blog you can think of and scream about this latest example of his unwillingness to even pay attention to his constituents.

You've never lived in Alabama, have you?
I got stuck there for many years.

MORE were bigots based upon creed.
It had to be the most ignorant place I've ever been.

When I went to Alabama. Most of the people I saw were black.

Please tell me Bill Russell is black.

Pennsylvania is a virulently racist state because it's run by Democrats. All Democrats are racist, everybody knows that. Without the race card what does their party have? A couple of pillow biters and some saggy witches that have been pimped out by the Socialists. Puhleaze!

Unless this is simply a preemptive excuse for why Whobama loses the state. In which case, Duh. All Republicans are racist. ( So current Socialist propaganda runs) It's why they kept slaves in the Civil War and why Jesse Jackson didn't win the Presidency in 1980.

Sheesh. It's like they're not even trying anymore. I wish they would come up with something new. I bet a lot of fat people aren't going to vote for Godbama because he's skinny. I think Weightists and Weightism is a huge unrecognized problem in America. "Don't be Weightist, vote Obama"

    I can see it already.
