That stinks. My really nice Toshiba laptop that is set up in my home office had some Window glitches but it's finally operational again. That machine was fairly expensive, and I use a lower cost ASUS (on #2, as one needed a new power adapter plug, which was actually part of the mother board-so it would of been more expensive to replace then just go with a new machine) which does often have a Windows 10 glitch, mostly with the Microsoft Edge, so when it acts up I simply switch to Chrome.

I often leave the ASUS on for hours and hours and end up with a zillion open windows, which does not help either. This thing has been dropped several times and still works great.

the ubuntu Linux works good, it will install itself next to windows so you can run either one, you can also just run it off a thumb drive, you can run with zero spyware and nobody watching, you can even run with full encryption, Retread might really like this. Last time I tried it it wasn't ready for prime time but it certainly is now.

Here we go again. The snail that drives this machine must have been near death tonight from the problems I had....

When I fired up task manager to see what the drag was, all that showed running was Chrome.

Then - I looked at app history and saw that Cortana took up 99% of the time tonight. I told Cortana to take a hike when the conversion attacked me and have not looked at it since. And - Edge took up over 50% of the network. Interesting as I have never had it open.

Where do you get this ubuntu or ugandi or whatever?
It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.

If I need windows I boot up in windows, if I don't need it which is 99% of the time I use ubuntu, much faster and uses fewer resources.

How did you set up a dual boot?

it gives you the choice when you install to have it run beside windows, that is a strange way for them to word it because only one is running at a time. Whenever you start your machine it asks which operating system you would like to run.

You download the DVD image and then burn it to DVD or you can make a thumb drive installer.
You can also run it from the DVD to see if you like it, but of course it won't run as well as if you install to your hard drive.

You can use this disk image program with the ubuntu image if you would rather make a thumb drive than an install disk.
