MOSCOW – Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Barack Obama on his election victory and is hoping for constructive dialogue with the incoming U.S. president.

The Kremlin says Medvedev sent Obama a congratulatory telegram Wednesday in which he stressed that cooperation between the United States and Russia was important for global security and stability.

The statement came shortly after Medvedev sharply criticized the U.S. in his state of the nation speech.

In the telegram, Medvedev said there is "solid positive potential" to improve relations but more must be done. He said he is counting on Obama to engage in constructive dialogue that would take both countries' interests into account.

Ties between Russia and the U.S. were seriously damaged by Russia's war in August with neighboring Georgia.

Obviously, any connection between this story and the Russian missile deployment is purely coincidental. Kumbaya, anyone?

Ah, but you see, if we cut the military budget and get rid of most of our nuclear weapons, (as obama has suggested), then they'll REALLY REALLY like us. So, no worries..

Why is it I am all of a sudden reminded of the Cold War Soviets?

Ah yes...because Obama is a "useful idiot" and the Russians have just seen a wide opening for their agenda.

    They smell blood..

Wrong. He will go on bended knee to the UN and beg them to stop the big, bad Russkies. Umpteen resolutions later the Russians will be laughing their asses off at a weakling US Prez., Bubba & peanut farmer's style.

Yes. Congrats. He used our capitalist system to buy the White House.
Now he's going to destroy that capitalist system.

If leftists didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all.

I just had a moment of insight yesterday. Remember where they reported that achmedinajab the president of iran sent a congratulatory letter to obama? He said congratulations, then went on to list what all he expected of obama's presidency. Cut and run, leave israel to him, etc. Now it's been said that achmedinajab fancies himself a figure in muslim prohpecy, he's to bring about the return of the imam from the well, or some such. If he thinks he's a big-wig in muslim circles, maybe that's where he gets off thinking he can dictate what's expected of obama, where he's seeing obama as still being a practicing muslim. In-a-way this is kinda like what they worried about JFK during his campaign, 'would he as a catholic be beholding to the pope?'.
