Twelve golden retrievers arrived in Florida Monday, bringing hope, comfort and big floppy ears accustomed to hearing heartache. The Lutheran Church Charities Comfort Dogs, with 20 humans in tow, came to Orlando to offer furry shoulders to cry on for those affected by this weekend's gruesome nightclub massacre that left 49 people dead and 53 others wounded. The dogs are familiar with such terrible tragedies. They traveled to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut after the shooting

    Good dogs.

Some of the better residential placements (institutions) for messed up foster kids use pet therapy. Usually they work with the Humane Society or a local shelter, and either bring the dogs to the kids or the kids to the dogs.

All my kids who have been in those places say that the pet therapy was really crucial to their happiness-it gave them something to look forward to and the dogs don't judge them like residential staff, teahcers and workers do.
