Elections Official Sleeps With Ballots
A Florida official spent Monday night locked in elections headquarters to make sure nothing happened to the ballots.
Florida elections official Mike Ertel slept with his ballots to make sure they were safe the night before the elections.
Mike Ertel, the supervisor of elections in Seminole County, Fla., locked himself into election headquarters Monday night to make sure nothing happened to the ballots or the voting machines.
"I'm a former Army guy, and I know the best way to make things safe and secure is to guard it," he told the station late Monday. "I'll be here all night."
Ertel said more than 100,000 people have already cast early ballots in the county and he wanted to make sure "nothing funny happens."
"It's my first big presidential election -- running it," he said. "I want to make sure that nothing goes wrong. The best way to make sure: stay here."
