On this day 7 years ago, an Afghan insurgent force of about 400 attacked the 54 Soldiers of Bravo Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th IBCT, 4th Infantry Division (reflagged as 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division) at COP Keating.

In what is now known as the Battle of Kamdesh, eight Soldiers died and 22 were wounded in this obscure part of Nuristan while defending the COP for over 12 hours of close-quarter combat.

To those who fought that day, we would like to honor these fallen Soldiers and salute the bravery of those who saved their buddies' lives. Most people remember this battle through the Medal of Honor citations describing the heroic actions of SSG Clinton Romesha and SSG Ty Carter - but there's so much more to the story.

The battle resulted in the award of 27 Purple Hearts, 37 Army Commendation Medals with "V" devices for valor, three Bronze Stars, 18 Bronze Stars with "V" devices, and nine Silver Stars. Please join us in honoring our fallen soldiers.

It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.
