Four current and former high-school students filed a lawsuit against the Puyallup School District on Wednesday claiming they were harassed and called "sluts" and "whores" after a student newspaper printed a story that detailed their sex lives.
Word of advice: don't say anything to a reporter that you're not comfortable having republished.

Depending on the accuracy of the article, looks like the students have a point. If the reporters told them their names would be withheld and reneged on that, there needs to be some form of punishment meted out, although academic punishment would be the preferred method. Otherwise these putzs may go on thinking such actions are acceptable journalism. My high school journalism teacher oversaw the newspaper and would have never let those real names come out in an article. Teh stupid appears to be strong in this story.

With all that said, biccat is absolutley right. Don't tell a reporter anything you don't want your name attached to.

Never trust a reporter. Just ask Newt Gingrich's mother about Connie Chung.

Would that be the "don't be a whore" lesson, or the "don't talk about being a whore" lesson?

I think both are important points to be made to students, although only the second one here really seems to have sunk in.

I was thinking of the second lesson. Although some may accidentally stumble on the first too. ;)
