Lou Correa is a US Rep. from California. He is a democrat and as such he is as hysterical as he is misinformed. Recently he freaked the hell out because he said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was staking out his church. He accused agents of trying to arrest illegal aliens in the church parking lot. As it turns out, not only was he wrong, but he was wrong in a very messed up and disrespectful way.
The OC Register reports that Rep. Correa was given these pictures from the Diocese of Orange, which controls the Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA:
Based on these photos, Correa went off on DHS Secretary John Kelly accusing ICE of “patrolling” his church.
“Christ Cathedral is my church. I know what it looks like, and these photos clearly show an ICE vehicle staking out the parking lot. This is despicable, and this behavior must end. It is intimidation, and it is wrong,” said Correa.
One of the problems is that the vehicle in the pictures doesn’t belong to ICE, it is a US Customs and Border Protection SUV.
ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice said the vehicle shown in the photos “belongs to another agency, not U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
Undeterred by facts, a spokesman for Rep. Correa said, “That’s got us even more worried now. Why are they all the way up here patrolling a church?”
CBP issued a statement that makes Correa look like an asshole:
“On February 17, 2017, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer from the Los Angeles CBP Honor Guard attended the funeral of a military veteran at the Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. The CBP Honor Guard has a proud tradition of routinely attending memorial services to honor law enforcement and military personnel who have bravely served their country. [The agency] was not conducting any law enforcement operations in or around the Christ Cathedral or immediate area,” read the statement
