Gore Warns World May Face Civilzation Collapse

A new study suggests the Mayan civilization might have collapsed due to environmental disasters:

"'These models suggest that as ecosystems were destroyed by mismanagement or were transformed by global climatic shifts, the depletion of agricultural and wild foods eventually contributed to the failure of the Maya sociopolitical system,' writes environmental archaeologist Kitty Emery of the Florida Museum of Natural History in the current Human Ecology journal."

As we move towards solving the climate crisis, we need to remember the consequences to civilizations that refused to take environmental concerns seriously.

More overreaction to their made up crisis. What exactly was the Mayan's carbon footprint? Where were the cars and factories that caused the "global climatic shifts"? Why won't you go away, no matter how much we ignore you? Why can't I put a roll eyes icon on this message?

The mayan civilization I believe did collapse due to environmental collapse - they did not have modern tech - did not rotate crops or have modern chemical fertilizers to replenish damaged soil. But to claim that they caused climate change is just plain silly. Besides - History shows - when the climate warms - populations and through it - civilizations BOOM. :) It's cold weather that destroys civilization.

The Mayan, Olmec, and many other cvilizations of the South American area, colllapsed mainly from drought. The evidence in in the ancient water ditches that they left behind. They kept getting longer and longer as they tried to reach dwindeling supplies that were farther away. Not Glowballs Warming.

In Mario Puzo’s book, The Godfather, Vito Corleone is able to rise to power by intimidation and sometimes murder. The Godfather, of course, is a novel (later made into a movie). It is eminently readable, but a novel all the same. What happened this past week, however, was not from a novel, but rather from the mouth of the former U.S. vice president and the latest Nobel Peace Prize winner:

LONDON, England (CNN) – Former vice president and environmental campaigner Al Gore has urged young people to protest against new coal-fired power plants that don't use carbon capture and storage technology.

Speaking at the opening plenary session of the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York, Gore said: "If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration
