Bella is our 9 yr old Greyhound and we took her
to the vet today for a dental. There were other things
that needed looking at but the dental was the biggie.

She needed TEN teeth pulled today, TEN! This is not
unusual with Greys but we've never had that many
taken out of any of our other Greys.

She is curled up in her bed, totally out. We gave her
some soft food as she hasn't eaten all day.

We have some pain pills for her. Our other pooch
Cricket the Rat Terror was glad to see her bud back.
May the FORCE be with you!

It's hell getting older, even for dogs. She had a corn removed from her pad, had an ear infection so has meds, had x-rays done while she was out (turned out to be arthritis and not the bone cancer that was in the back of our minds), and all those teeth removed. Poor us---the bill, after a discount, was $814. Yikes! I was thinking maybe $400+. We've had dentals for her before and she's never had an extraction. In fact she just had her previous dental in December.

Good. Back to musings about food.

Since they usually wolf-stuff-down, she probably doesn't use many teeth like she did as a pup.

Now she's back to begging. Bella is still on soft canned food and seems to be enjoying all her meds. She wolfs them down with the food. She won't want to eat that kibble anymore.

Cricket is still so glad to have her Bella back, snuggling with her all the time. I've never in my life had two dogs that attached. Despite all that's going down in St Louis the last few days, just looking at our two pups makes me smile. And Cricket, the dog who supposedly doesn't like men, loves SR. She follows him everywhere, along with Bella. He's the dog whisperer.

Noooo... ok, you've gotta sit cross-legged on the floor next to her dish, and touch her paw as she's eating. Or put your hands together in a wavy fashion. That should make her feel guilty about begging enough to stop doing it.

That would never happen. We couldn't make those two dogs guilty about begging. Little Cricket is getting very pushy. I told SR that we've created a monster. Now that little thing stands in a little show dog pose, wagging her tail and barking. She does the Lassie thing, getting SR to follow her to see what she wants.

Bella is smart. She lets Cricket do the work and then reaps the reward.

Surprise, surprise, the greyhound remains race dog skinny, the little rat terrier is getting a bit chubby. We need to cut her back on the begging.
