Entitlement mentality over Oregon letting some rural residents pump their own gas. Wow. But so mockable!

It's been a self-serve world my entire driving history, since 1980. But there used to be a few hold-out stations that still had servicemen to pump your gas, which was nice when I was dressed up or before I learned how to check the oil myself. I guess they all moved to Oregon.

Oregon banned self-serve to prevent gas stations from reducing labor costs.

I worked in a gas station as a kid, back then $1.00 would get you 4 gallons, your oil, battery and radiator checked. Today ask for $1.00 worth and the clerk will fart and give you a receipt.

Oregon’s legislature offers 17 reasons “it is in the public interest to maintain a prohibition on the self-service dispensing of Class 1 flammable liquids” — a.k.a. gasoline, which you put in your car’s “Class 1 flammable liquids tank.” The first reason is: The dispensing of such liquids “by dispensers properly trained in appropriate safety procedures reduces fire hazards.” This presumably refers to the many conflagrations regularly occurring at filling stations throughout the 48 states where 96 percent of Americans live lives jeopardized by state legislators who are negligent regarding their nanny-state duty to assume that their constituents are imbeciles.

    Worth the read!

I have been doing self-serve gas since 1972 (sometimes as low as $0.249 per gallon!). In that time I have seen one fire at a gas station. It was an engine fire unrelated to the pumping of gas.

I had a good friend who ended up in the burn ward as a station attendant. He had a car on the rack and poked a hole in the tank backing it off. He ran the rack back up and soaped the hole, stepped out of the bay ...... and lit a cigarette. The drip down the arm of his coveralls basically exploded as I watched.
