A strong earthquake centered in the Gulf of Alaska just after midnight Tuesday has prompted tsunami warnings and watches for the Alaskan, Canadian and U.S. West Coasts.

The magnitude 7.9 quake, revised downward from a previous estimation of 8.2, struck just before 1:32 a.m. PST about 175 miles southeast of Kodiak, Alaska, or about 350 miles south of Anchorage.

Tsunami warnings have been posted from Alaska's Aleutian Islands to the British Columbia coast, including Vancouver Island's outer west, central and northeast coasts, southeast Alaska's inner and outer coasts.

    Warnings later canceled.
May the FORCE be with you!

Submerged continental-collisions just don't seem to create as many tidal-waves as they do when they pull apart, like in Asia.

    Truth in the crumbling:

Mag 7.9 280 kilometers SE of Kodiak
    Mag 5 240km
    Mag 5.3 290kms
    Mag 5.5 270kms... cracking ESEast
