California police worked with neo-Nazis to pursue 'anti-racist' activists, documents show

Officers expressed sympathy with white supremacists and sought their help to target counter-protesters after a violent 2016 rally, according to court documents

California police investigating a violent white nationalist event worked with white supremacists in an effort to identify counter-protesters and sought the prosecution of activists with “anti-racist” beliefs, court documents show.

The records, which also showed officers expressing sympathy with white supremacists and trying to protect a neo-Nazi organizer’s identity, were included in a court briefing from three anti-fascist activists who were charged with felonies after protesting at a Sacramento rally. The defendants were urging a judge to dismiss their case and accused California police and prosecutors of a “cover-up and collusion with the fascists”.

Defense lawyers said the case at the state capital offers the latest example of US law enforcement appearing to align with neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups while targeting anti-fascist activists and Donald Trump protesters after violent clashes.

“It is shocking and really angering to see the level of collusion and the amount to which the police covered up for the Nazis,” said Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley teacher and anti-fascist organizer after participating in the June 2016 Sacramento rally, where she said she was stabbed and bludgeoned in the head. “The people who were victimized by the Nazis were then victimized by the police and the district attorneys.”

    but not surprising...
Good. Calling oneself 'anti fascist' or 'anti racist' or 'anti Trump' does NOT make one immune from being prosecuted for violence.

The Guardian ... the Guardian ... they're only what? ~5100 miles away from Sacramento? Here's the basic facts of this riot.

    1. The white supremacists/nationalists/thingummies had a permit to hold a rally on the Capitol grounds.

    2. The Antifoids proclaimed very publicly their intent to disrupt the rally with violence.

    3. Both the ralliers and the Antifoids came armed, the Antifoids to attack, and the ralliers to defend themselves IF forced to do so.

    4. The Antifoids attacked, sometimes with deadly force.

    5. The ralliers defended themselves, sometimes with deadly force.

    6. SacPD and the Capitol police were unprepared and ineffective that day. Because the Antifoids were the attackers, SacPD has worked to identify and prosecute the Antifoids. IIRC, that former Berserkeley middle school teacher-turned-street-thug-agitator was among them. Even white supremacists/nationalists/thingummies have a right to defend themselves. Including meeting deadly force with deadly force.

To the degree there were true white supremacists, white nationalists or other types of racists among the ralliers I disagree with their cause. Period. But they do have the right to rally peacefully, and to defend themselves proportionally if attacked.

It is very similar to what happened in Charlotteville. White Nationalists get a permit to hold a rally, violent Antifa gang shows up with the announced intention of disrupting rally in order to protect the citizens from hearing bad things. With the compliance of the Mayor and the police, Antifa is given free reign and someone gets killed. White Nationalists are blamed because... well they are not liberals. Trump states both sides bear responsibility and liberals go wild.
    Liberals! The real fascists.

The event was "violent" not because of who was holding it but because of who showed up to protest. It is journalistic dishonesty to put the adjective "violent" in front of "white nationalist" since it was not they who caused the violence.

Antifa is a Soros-funded group that exists for the purpose of creating chaos and violence. Hence the help the police finally gave the permit-holding "white nationalists" against the violent Soros thugs.

I think it's The Guardian in San Francesspool, not London England.

At the very bottom of the article's webpage the company name is given. It's the Brit paper that started out as the Manchester Guardian.
