When they weren't throwing tea into the Boston harbor.

Plus they didn't have an income tax or social security or medicare.

They taxed the hell out of alcohol and the medical field was almost non existent.
It was also an agrarian society where people died by 40 years old.

OK, it's a tax. BFD It's a constitutional tax that provided a major portion of the Federal Budget for over a century. It's a tax that made American steel world class and destroyed British steel over a few decades of the 19th century.

A major, protracted, conventional war is not immediately on the horizon but imagine one where all your steel comes from half way around the world or worse, behind enemy lines.

There may have been instances where tariffs were counterproductive and the consequences have to be carefully weighed but we must give greater weight to national security than we give to knocking off a couple hundred bucks on the price a new car or the bottom line of the globalist elites.

Funny how people like fleebmaster never heard of the Whisky Rebellion.

lol. I'd love to pay the tax on alcohol that sparked off the whiskey rebellion.

The life expectancy thing is ridiculously untrue. It's an average, based almost entirely on infant mortality rates. If you survived childhood your odds were pretty good for a reasonably long life.

Can we maybe start cutting government spending? Maybe we can talk about which taxes work best once you people aren't running trillion dollar deficits.

More like feeding a troll. Just ignore it whatever it is or claims to be.

So, so, correct, my favorite DumbAss Tanker! ~

Thanks for your input of Trump's tariff on steel.
