s the Trump administration continues its battle against illegal immigration, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh said Wednesday the city will pay a team of lawyers to represent immigrants facing deportation.

The city’s spending panel on Wednesday approved spending $200,000 to pay for the attorneys, who the Democratic mayor said will get to work within weeks defending immigrants against federal deportation lawyers.

“We hope that everyone gets due process,” Pugh said.

Half of the $200,000 is funded by a grant from the Vera Institute of Justice, a New York nonprofit. The other half will come from the city’s budget.

Undocumented immigrants in Sacramento will have city-funded legal services as soon as next month to fight deportation and “prepare for the worst” as their fears grow about federal immigration enforcement.

Sacramento City Council members voted unanimously late Thursday to set aside up to $300,000 for a network of legal,
educational and faith-based nonprofit groups that will help residents with immediate immigration problems and advise them how to protect children and assets if parents are deported.

The network also would educate them on their rights.

SACRAMENTO — The $125 billion budget bill California lawmakers passed Thursday gives a state-funded program an extra $15 million to help those facing deportation amid widespread fears of heightened immigration enforcement under the Trump administration.

The program, One California, is overseen by the state’s Department of Social Services. It was created in 2015 to provide naturalization services and help young, undocumented immigrants apply for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, a program created by former President Barack Obama for the so-called Dreamers.
One California is now expanding its services to include deportation defense for both legal residents and undocumented immigrants, most of whom would otherwise have no legal representation during deportation proceedings.

I'm thinking it would sure be nice to know that if I get in any legal trouble that the state and local government will pay the tab for my defense, but then I realize that I'm a law abiding and responsible U.S. Citizen who pays a large sum of my earned income in taxes and therefore don't matter in the eyes of my so called "representatives".
The price of freedom is something the protected will never know.
