New York (CNN)Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

This is sad but I'm not really surprised, he always struck me
as a kind of weird guy. Very moody and unhappy.

I watched his show if he was going to a city that interested me. He did a show in metro Detroit that was good-he loved the Middle Eastern restaurants and got the cooks to make him food that wasn't on the menu.

The anchors on CNN had to deal with this live this morning. Alyson Camorota was having a lot of trouble fighting back the tears. Another celebrity suicide-I wonder if he found out he was terminally ill or something like that.

I find it hard to find sympathy for a guy who said he would poison the food of the president.

Caught his show a couple of times. He seemed like an arrogant prick. But RIP.

It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.

Never watched the guy. He seemed boring. And I don't really respect people who ended their own life. Everybody has it tough now 'n then.

I didn't like him but tough to judge someone with depression. You have no idea until it affects you. It can be debilitating. It isn't simply about dealing with tough times, it's a chemical imbalance. Simply "bucking up" fixes it.

    giving a food reviewer.

    Simple solution: stop watching CNN.
