This past weekend the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim did their annual halfway to Christmas promo which included decorating the stadium with Christmas decorations, having a Santa Claus for the kids to get pictures with, a Mike Trout Nutcracker giveaway and ending with a Christmas themed fireworks show.

This year we decided to try a new idea and created 6 props that allowed us to shoot comets 360 degrees off a 120 foot high boom lift. It took me and one other crew member 3 days to load the "wheels of death" and another 8 of us 1 1/2 days to position the prop on the lift and load the rest of the show. The prop is used a bit in the beginning as a teaser but most use is at the end of the show. The results were better than we expected...

We put together a video showing how the effect was put together which a view of the show from a different area of the stadium...

The last video was from a GoPro that was set up at the firing table in the parking lot.
