his Sunday is going to be crazy. Days before the premiere of Sacha Baron Cohen‘s Who Is America? this weekend, the comedian, CBS, and Showtime are all in hot water from none other than Sarah Palin. Why? Allegedly Cohen dressed up as a disabled veteran to interview the former vice presidential candidate, and it did not go well.
At this point we only have Palin’s side of the story, and it’s pretty cringe-worthy. After taking a screenshot of a tweet from commentator Mike Drudge about the interview, Palin detailed her account of what happened. “Yup – we were duped. Ya’ got me, Sacha. Feel better now?” she began.
According to Palin, the interview with Cohen and Showtime was presented as a “legit opportunity” to connect with American veterans. Palin and her daughter flew across the country only to meet Cohen, who was allegedly disguised as a disabled veteran complete with a wheelchair. Palin then claims she sat through a long interview that was filled with sarcastic and disrespectful comments but she stayed out of respect to the man she believed was a veteran. After a certain unclarified point, the interview proved to be too much for Palin. The politician removed her mic and stormed out. “The disrespect of our US military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse,” she wrote.

The man is a pig. Governor Palin's response showed pure class. If Showtime actually airs this crap they will be in for a rude awakening.

I can name the number of good performances Sacha Baron Cohen has given on on hand, and nearly all of them are intentionally obnoxious, easy- to- hate characters (i.e. Perelli from 'Sweeney Todd,' Thenardier from 'Les Miserables,' etc.). I guess you could say such roles come naturally to him with his normal personality.
His mockumentary schtick that he's tried in his movies like 'Borat' and 'Bruno' (Which basically boils down to, "All Americans are evil, stupid bigots") has worn thin really fast, but now he's crossed the line by portraying our veterans in such a way.
Screw you, Cohen.

I thought he was hilarious in Borat and in Talladega Nights. I also thought he was well-cast in Les Mis. But he is obnoxious-like Jim Carrey, he doesn't always know when enough is enough. Actually, that's my main criticism of South Park and any of Seth McFarland's cartoons-they don't always know how far to go on the tasteless factor.

I watch South Park because I like to look at the simple art flow of the show. The scenes are so simple to create a 10 year old could do it using Anime Studio or even the free Inkscape. Simple circles and squares with eye and mouth sets for each character. If you have time check out Inkscape, there are hundreds of tutorials on youtube and also from professional artists who support Inkscape. Another is Gravit free and you can use online or desktop install.

Some of the best SP episodes are the ones with strong social commentary-the Britney Spears and the "Stupid Spoiled Whore" episodes are actually very insightful regarding how the entertainment industry encourages sexually provocative behavior in pre-teen girls.
I also like the one where Wendy kicks Carman's ass.

Could Sacha Baron Cohen’s Stunt with Sarah Palin Land Him in Jail?
The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 makes it a crime to lie about being a recipient of military decorations or medals “with intent to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefit.” A stunt for highly lucrative television show could certainly count as a “tangible benefit.” A previous version of the Act from 2005 had much broader restriction against lying about past military service, but the Supreme Court said it violated the First Amendment in an opinion written by the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.
