1909: The first automobile races were run at the just opened Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.

I was just there back at the beginning of August for GenCon and visited the museum (lots of very fast cars) and took a tour of the track. Interesting fact....the bricks are still there and not just at the start/finish line. Instead of removing them, they were paved over. So, to this day, they are still running on the bricks that were the original surface of the track. Also, the track is only 50 feet wide but, on race day with crowds in the stands on both sides of the home straight, drivers feel that it's even narrower than that. Another interesting fact is the flag stand at the start/finish line, where the race official waves the checkered flag, is modeled after the crow's nest of USS Indianapolis (CA-35), the last US warship sunk in WW2.

And, since I was there as well....

    USS Indianapolis (CA-35) memorial

These should be viewable by all but let me know if not.
