Roman Reigns, WWE's biggest active star and certainly its most polarizing performer, announced in a shocking statement Monday night that his real-life battle with leukemia will force him to step away from the ring effective immediately. The 33-year-old Reigns, real name is Joe Anoa'i, opened Monday's episode of Raw with the reveal that was anything but a storyline or predetermined moment

I don't keep up with rasslin that much any more, but this is a trip. Reigns seems to have been pushed by WWE as the next John Cena/Steve Austin/big thing for a while, without every really being embraced by the fans. He's pretty good in the ring, and on the mic, as a face or a heel, but he just seems to miss that x-factor, no matter how hard Vince McMahon tries.

Nevertheless, the diagnosis sucks. Hopefully WWE provides good health coverage for non ring related injuries.
