    1792: President George Washington signed an act creating the United States Post Office Department.

    Original cost went from 6 to 12 cents according to distance. We know it went down from there as I mailed 2 penny postcards in the 1940ís. Now forever stamps are over half a buck.

    First class forever stamps are 55 cents. The international ones are over a buck.

    The BATFE has kept the cost of their tax stamps unchanged since 1934; $200. :(

    Recently found half a book of 20 forever stamps I purchased maybe 7-8 years ago. I made money on that deal!!! :)
