Sen. Rand Paul has joined the list of GOP Senators who are abandoning Majority Leader Mitch McConnellís pledge to support the border emergency declaration by President Donald Trump.

ďI canít vote to give the president the power to spend money that hasnít been appropriated by Congress,Ē Paul told a home-state audience at Western Kentucky Universityís Augenstein Alumni Center on May 2. ďWe may want more money for border security, but Congress didnít authorize it. If we take away those checks and balances, itís a dangerous thing,Ē he said, according to the Bowling Green Daily News.

Paul is the fifth GOP Senator who says he will oppose Trumpís emergency declaration. His vote will allow Democrats to get a resolution against emergency spending through the Senate with a vote or two to spare
I guess Rand Paul was mad that he didn't get the Republican nod so he is going to take his marbles and go home

I'm not surprised. Some of them are in tough election states and know they can safely vote against this and it still will pass. Dems need about 13 to defect to stop it. So we're still good.

No, we are not. This resolution was passed pursuant to a particular law which requires a Senate vote within 15 days. It's filibuster proof and will get to the President's desk unless the Turtle can work some kind of miracle.

At which case President Trump vetos it. To which it takes a super majority to override his veto. Thus its safe. They can't get to the super majority as it stands.

Oh yes, I agree. The point is that the GOP is sending a bill to their leader that they know he will veto. Bad optics. Shameful. An excuse for the democrats and the MSM to break into a happy dance for a few days.

You're right. Trump should have support from the cowardly, oh so righteous Republicans. I noticed that Romney so far isn't in the gallery of yellow RINO repubs.
