SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - On Christmas Eve, Gov. Chris Gregoire proclaimed a state of emergency in Washington due to the state's ongoing series of winter weather and storms.

Gregoire notes snowfall has reached record or near-record level in 30 of Washington's 39 counties.

Prior to the Governor's declaration the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) convened an emergency meeting Wednesday to discuss current conditions and the forecast for two major winter storm systems that could bring another 18 inches of fresh snow to the region.

British Columbia is getting pounded to. My dad was telling me they got nearly 2 feet of snow in just a couple of days. And how I understand it up there, thats almost unheard of.

Don't know why the NWS has their panties in a wad. I've been watching the radar all afternoon and seen nothing other then garden variety storms. They even issued a tornado warning just east of here, with no circulation or super-cells present.

I foolishly listened to their warnings, particularly when I heard the weather radio constantly turning on. I took a lantern downstairs in case the electricity went off, some breakfast bars in case we got stuck, naturally took the dogs and the laptop. SR didn't stay downstairs as long as I did. He kept saying that he didn't think it was going to be that bad. I waited til the all clear was given. :o

At least it was a good fire drill for the possible spring storms. Any time it gets to almost 70 in this area in the winter, we usually have to pay for it with these storms.

At least it was my incentive to workout at the circuit we've set up in the basement. We have a lot of gym equipment in the basement. The place we worked out went out of business, so we'll save money and just workout here.
