    Here we go again: A pair of lawmakers in New Jersey want the state’s schools to stop using the classic Mark Twain novel “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn“ in their classrooms.

    As reported by Politico, although the book contains numerous “anti-racist and anti-slavery themes” it also features over 200 mentions of the N-word. New Jersey State Assembly members Verlina Reynolds-Jackson and Jamel Holley contend the latter “can cause students to feel upset, marginalized or humiliated and can create an uncomfortable atmosphere in the classroom.”

    They believe if you can hide history then it didn't happen.
    Cast your burden on the Lord,
    and he will sustain you;
    he will never permit
    the righteous to be moved.

    My students (black, Hispanic, and even some white) drop 200+ n-bombs a day, with the adults telling them to not use it. Can we ban them from school?

    I read it in a 12th grade lit class when I was in 11th grade. It's a very important book for high school students to read. Mark Twain is a writer whose style is quintessentially American. It is about growing up, about role models (Jim), and about learning to see through bullshit. It's as necessary for high school kids to read as Dickens A Tale Of Two Cities (for it's lesson about what it truly means to love someone else).

    How many times and for how long has this been going on? My wife fought this fight back in the 1980’s and it wasn’t new then. Let it go people! It’s literature of the times.
    It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
    It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.

    I think it's more about not wanting to hurt people's feelings, and taking that desire to an unnecessary extreme.
