You could probably survive in a good tent next to those hot rocks all winter .Given that the rangers would allow a few elk take downs every few weeks and roast over the hot rocks .

Get out the wagon and collect the chips. Heat your living area, cook with 'em and feel lucky that you have a cheap source of energy. It's been going on for who knows how long, long time. Hundreds of years if not thousands.

Both Indians and Mountain Men commonly wintered in there. The geyser gets the press but the entire area is riddled with hot springs. We have a lot of them here in Colorado also.
