    Whew. He's still okay, thankfully.

You keep going to drinking-establishments frequently, odds dictate that you'll inevitably be 'involved' in a random flare-up or two.

The spotlight is on the Dominican Republic right now because of those four tourist-poisonings, or deaths in the past 9-months.

HardballTalk : Report: police believe a drug lord had David Ortiz shot over alleged affair with wife

    https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2019/06/10...air-with-wife/

The Daily Mail, citing three sources with Dominican Republic law enforcement, is reporting that Ortiz was shot by gunmen hired by a drug lord who thought Ortiz was having an affair with his wife. A representative of Ortiz said,* “there is no doubt that it was an act of hired killers,” but denied that it had anything to do with a woman. It’s certainly a salacious accusation. One assumes that, as the dust settles from all of this that some greater insight into the motive will be discovered.

Has a 'ding' of truth, but the woman 'coincidentally happens to be a druglord's wife'... that's stretching it.

The video shows it's an assassination attempt. So we have to assume that the assassin didn't plan on the crowd catching him and beating the crap out of him till police arrived. That's sorta stretching it too.

He was shot in the gut and required major surgery.
Progressivism is a bottomless pit of absurdity.

It looks to me like the people of the DR love their famous baseball player more than they fear their local drug lord. According to CNN this morning, the authorities arrested a 2nd suspect in the shooting.

As far as the deaths in the hotel/resort-I give the DR government credit for realizing they are not up to the investigation and asking for help from the FBI. Tourism is one of the only industries they've got and they are an affordable and warm destination for Americans looking to escape winter weather. Incidentally, I know a lot of church people who have been to the DR for missionary work, and they say the people are wonderful, just really poor.
