Chicago-based BDT Capital Partners said Friday it’s agreed to acquire a majority stake in Whataburger.
The burger chain will remain headquartered in San Antonio, and the groups will “begin exploring expansion plans,” they said in a statement.
Whataburger’s founders, the Dobson family, will keep a minority position in the company. President and CEO Preston Atkinson and Chairman Tom Dobson will retain their seats on the board but retire from daily operations.

News of the sale to Chicago-based BDP capital Partners prompted dismay from its fans, including the Houston Texans defensive end, who tweeted his proposal.

Watt tweeted, “Ok, I say we all chip in and buy Whataburger back. Make honey butter chicken biscuits available all day, add kolaches to the menu and change nothing else. Especially not the ketchup.”

I heard about this yesterday on local talk radio. The little league baseball team picture was taken in 1957 in Corpus Christi, Texas. My father is number 8. The one in the middle with the bad posture. Lol! My father is hanging out at all the Whataburgers 24/7. I’d post the picture, but I don’t have the means to do it.

I hope the new owners are smart enough to let well enough alone. I'm not a die hard, but I like several of their burgers and the buffalo ranch chicken strip sandwich when it's out. Plus when I'm driving late, they are open 24 hours, meaning an option besides McDonald's or Jack in the Box. (I like Jack, but variety is good)

I love burgers but now any kind of hamburger is giving me heartburn something terrible. I think it has something to do with the meds I take everyday twice daily for 4 meds. I get froggy sometimes and still eat a burger but I pay for it dearly. If I were in Houston I would have no problem taking a shot at a nice what a burger, I would just make sure I had a bottle of antacid.
