Los Angeles (CNN)An earthquake with an early measure of magnitude 6.4 hit Southern California -- about 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles -- on Thursday morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

Reports of scattered damage, including rock slides and fires, rolled in by midday.

At least four large aftershocks have been recorded, measuring 4.7, 3.5, 3.8 and 4.2 magnitude, officials said.

The earthquake was felt in central Los Angeles as a long, rolling quake, making buildings rock back and forth for at least several seconds.

Do any of these look familiar?

It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.

Whoever it is, I hope they aim better next time. Try 3rd and Broadway as the epicenter.

It's no comfort to any person who does live in the area, but it's a very sparsely populated area, and probably most buildings are reasonably modern (= well built). The nearest major city is Bakersfield, over a hundred miles away, and LA and Las Vegas are a bit farther and equidistant. All in all, there are some frustrated California-Haters out there.

I noticed the USGS was a little pissed
off that some one had announced that another
quake was like 15 minutes away.

No way I'd take a prediction like that
seriously unless the gubmint has been
    hiding some new tech.

Also glad no one was hurt and there have
been a ton of after shocks.

I had to turn the USGS off. They were ridiculously aware they were on-television. Scraps of good info filtered-through, but it wasn't worth it.

I'm sure if you just set the Death Star to low, you could cause a quake.
