Ask me about the Northridge quake in 94. (Yep, I lived about 20 minutes from Northridge at the time.)

I’m just happy to have set the alarm to wake me up for work tonight. I’m hoping the freaking ground does not move between now and then. 🤨

Hey, it was in Jersey! We were not exactly known as a
hotbed of quake activity!! But I did learn there was a
fault line there as well as one under NYC as I believe.

It was "interesting" as I recall it.
May the FORCE be with you!

I grew up in CA's Central Valley, about an hour NNW of Sacramento (pre-freeway). From birth through leaving for college after graduating from high school I didn't feel an earthquake. When the 6.9 1989 Loma Prieta quake hit, my parents were living in the same house and onlt knew something had happened because some wind chimes were swaying (not due to wind). I didn't feel an earthquake until after moving to Silicon Valley in 1978. The epicenter for the Loma Prieta quake was about 20 miles from my home, so we felt that one. There's probably one or two magnitude 1-3 quakes in the SF Bay Area every day. Some are not felt, some are felt in a fairly small area - Mrs. SVPete and I work in locations 10-12 miles apart and there've been some I've felt but she did not.

I get more window rattling from drivers pumping the bass to their rap music than I would from the occasional Michigan quake (the last of which registered a 3.0-there is a fault under the Kalamazoo area, plus there is a lot of fracking in that area). The meme has a photo of an overturned lawn chair and says "The Great Michigan Earthquake-We Will Rebuild!".

I've been to CA (Frisco) a couple of times, and didn't feel any tremors or quakes while I was there. I guess I was lucky.

Tecate: here’s the details on this latest Ridgecrest boomer.

    https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthqua.../origin/detail

It was 8 km below the surface. You’ll find most are somewhere between 2 and 10 miles deep. Here’s one of the lightweights out of OK.

    https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthqua...lnwy/executive

    And another near San Antonio.

    https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthqua...4195/executive

Divide by 1.6 to get miles.
It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.
. If you ain't havin' fun, it's your own damn fault

8 Km is slightly less than 5 miles.
