SLW's son is doing some volunteer work at
the STL APA and a cutie of a pooch came in
    a few days ago.

Van is a male 3 yr old Chihuahua mix, white with
tan spots. 13 pounder. He is a perfect
    addition to our Imperial Pack.

I have pics on my phone but I have to get them to a
site where I can link them. God, I haven't
done this in a long time!!!

Van is sleeping between us right now and
Bella and Cricket have accepted him, at least
    it looks like they have!

He loves people and has already made a
nest in our bed where we have a pillow
    pile.

    Impressive, most impressive. For a
    widdle doggie.
May the FORCE be with you!

My son really loves him and tried him with his 2 Boston terriers. Didn't work with those aggressive little characters. (but the Bostons are cute and friendly with people---just not other dogs). So next best thing is for us to take Van. His name is Vanity, which is a really stupid name for a male dog, so we call him "Van the Man" (in honor of Stan the Man Musial---hey I'll always be a St Louis Cards baseball fan).

We weren't looking to get another dog, but I'm glad that SR and my son talked me into it. Actually if we got another dog, would have preferred a second greyhound. I prefer the big dogs. Our greyhound is a steady, loving dog. The little rescued rat terrier is still very skittish after over two years. We love her, but it kind of hurts when she runs away from us and refuses to come when called.

Maybe Cricket will learn. She got so jealous of little Van sitting on my lap on the way home that Cricket did something she had NEVER done before---crawled in SR's lap while he was driving home. Maybe her jealousy of the attention little Van the Man is getting will drive her to be a more normal, less neurotic dog.

My 11 year old dog is completely deaf so she is still skittish if you move your hands towards her face or head, I just try to pet and rub her a lot which helps her to feel comfortable.

Congrats to you guys and the puppy, who now has a great home.

    SLW-I have a rat/Jack Russell mix, so I understand about high-strung dogs.

They're all sweet, and lucky !!! The new one's colors are very similar to my larger dog. I named her BB short for Baby Bear because when she was little she would roll into a ball and looked just like a tiny Polar Bear. She is at her assigned duty station, the head of the bed directly behind me and it is so hot out after going out to shop and to the PO I think I will take a nap myself.

My wife wants a third one but I want to wait until these two stop doing their business in the house.

    Congrats on the new guy!
It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.

Does your little rat terrier look very much like our little Cricket? I feel so sorry for the poor little thing. She must have been very abused before we got her. She was marked as a rat/Jack Russell mix, but our vet said she was all rat terrier. Maybe it is just being high strung. You can tell she wants to be picked up and loved, but she's just afraid.

The greyhound is just an easy going, loving dog. Our 2 female pups are hanging around together even more than usual now. The new little guy clings to us.

That's just where the new one sleeps now---the head of the bed directly behind me. I'm really tired today---hard workout with the physical therapist and then grocery shopping.
