Roy Boehm, a plankowner of the US Navy SEALS, and known to many as the 'first SEAL', has died at his home in Florida at the age of 84. Apparently, he died on December 30, but...
His wife Susan wanted his death to go unpublicized. "He wanted no obituary, no funeral service and no fanfare" according to reports.
"He's the founding father," said Terry Lynn, director of the Charlotte County Veterans Council. "So there's not a Navy SEAL, I think, that doesn't know his name. He is to the Navy SEALs what George Washington is to the United States."
...and others by Senior Chief James 'Patches' Watson.
RIP to a real hero.Nothing helps a bad mood like spreading it around.

My dad met him on a flight out of Florida once. Dad was reading his book, and when Mr. Boehm noticed that, he came over and talked to my dad for a while, and autographed the book for him. Dad was fired up, and couldn't stop talking about it for days, afterwards.
It sounds like on top of being an honorable soldier and great american, he was a genuinely nice guy.
