    1973: President Richard Nixon nominated House minority leader Gerald R. Ford of Michigan to succeed Spiro T. Agnew as vice president.
    It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
    It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.

    The only President from Michigan, and he's from my hometown, Grand Rapids. It was a really big deal for us when he became VP, then President. I was in elementary school and our teachers finally had someone local at the highest levels.

    He's probably the last President and one of the last politicians who put the good of the nation above their own political career. His pardon of Nixon cost him the 1976 election, but it was the right thing to do at the time.

    As a trivia question bonus, Gerald Ford was the only person to become President who was not elected by the voters of the United States.
    Cast your burden on the Lord,
    and he will sustain you;
    he will never permit
    the righteous to be moved.

    And now I’ve corrected the headline to what I intended to start with.

    He was never elected president or vice president. As for pardoning Nixon costing him in '76, I believe Reagan nearly unseating him in a primary had something to do with that as well. Ford only won the nomination by about 33 delegates.
    Progressivism is a bottomless pit of absurdity.
